Campfire
Roaring Campfire doesn't mean you've mastered friendship
It means you've built something really special around your fire. There is warmth here. Consistency. Depth. People who know you and people you know deeply. You've learned how to invite, show up, stay curious, make room, repair when things get messy, and keep relationships alive through the ordinary seasons of life, and along the way, you didn't just find a village. You helped build one.
That's worth stopping for a second and celebrating, because the kind of connection you're experiencing doesn't happen by accident. It's the result of a lot of little moments that probably didn't feel particularly significant at the time. The texts. The invitations. The follow-ups. The dinners. The conversations. The apologies. The ordinary Tuesdays. The times you showed up and the times you let someone else show up for you. Those little moments added up, and now you've got a roaring fire.
But here's what's really exciting about this season: A roaring fire creates enough warmth that it can help light other fires.Your next season of connection may be less about asking, “How do I build my village?” and more about asking: “How can the village I've built help create more belonging around me?”
How Do I Even Strengthen My Fire?
At Roaring Fire, strengthening your fire isn't necessarily about making it bigger. It's about becoming intentional with the influence your fire already has. That might look like being the person who makes the introduction. Creating traditions that keep people connected. Inviting someone who doesn't have a natural place to belong yet. Teaching your kids what it looks like to build community. Helping a friend become brave enough to send the invitation. Or simply continuing to create spaces where people can show up as themselves and be known. And while you're creating warmth for other people, don't forget that you still need your own fire, too. You don't always have to be the host, the connector the strong friend, the one checking on everyone else. Let people tend you, too. A Roaring Campfire has enough warmth to share. But even the person tending the fire deserves a seat beside it.
Three things your Roaring Fire needs you to know
Your fire can help light another one
You've learned things about connection that someone else around you may still be figuring out. You know that invitations matter. You know friendship takes repetition. You know that sometimes somebody has to go first. So look around. Who could use an introduction? An invitation? A little encouragement? Who might need someone to show them that building a village is actually possible? You don't have to build their village for them. Sometimes you just need to help create the spark.
Don't become the person who tends everyone else's fire
When you're naturally good at creating connection, it's easy to become the person everyone relies on to keep it going. You make the plans. You check in. You remember. You gather everyone. And those things may genuinely bring you joy. But your relationships should still have places where you get to receive. Let someone invite you. Tell people when you need help. Let someone else bring dinner. Let yourself be the one who needs checking on sometimes.Being good at creating belonging doesn't mean you always have to be the one creating it.
Protect the warmth you've already built
A roaring fire can still cool. Life changes. People move. Kids grow. Schedules shift. Hard things happen. New relationships enter the circle and old ones move into different seasons. Keep tending the people who helped build this fire with you. Keep asking questions. Keep making the plan. Keep repairing. Keep saying the thing you assume they already know. Don't get so busy creating warmth for everyone else that you forget to sit around your own fire.
Now that you know your fire is roaring, you might be wondering, what do I even work on from here?
Keep tending it
Seriously.
You don't need to chase a bigger village. You get to be intentional with the one you've built and with the warmth it creates. Another invitation. Another check-in. Another introduction. Another moment of letting someone help you. Another chair pulled closer. Another opportunity to make someone feel like they belong. The problem is... when you're already good at building connection, it's easy to assume you're doing all the little things you need to keep doing, and sometimes the people who are best at tending everyone else are the ones who need the reminder to tend their own relationships, too.
